I have encountered that issue before

I had to have the warranty head/valve spring work done on my 13 FRS, and had them replace the sparkplugs at the same time because to change the sparkplugs requires the motor either be unfastened from the motor mounts and jacked up to clear the frame rails or have the motor out. Since they had to pull the motor to do the valve warranty work, I imagine that you would have to do the same to do it on your own (if there was a shortcut/work around, I'm sure the dealer mechanics would have used it to do the warranty work to save time).

Did your car have the valve spring warranty work done? If not you may have an engine warranty claim....

    Thanks TrailDust.
Tho I've never worked on a flat 4 engine,I would think its very possible. As long as you can get to the intake manifold bolts .

I have not encountered that issue before. Perhaps our other Admin MR2Jedi has experience with something similar as he's very knowledgeable with motors.
