    Tires for FR-S Stock Rims

Has anyone installed 225/45/17 on the stock rims?
Also I have seen some 235/45/17 on 7" rims. Just not on the FR-S.
I thought if you were going to use 235's you need a 7.5" rim.
I was thinking of either the 225's of 235/50 (which would fit the rim better)
I,m just looking to make the car look better with the wider tires. I,m not
    into drifting or anything.
    Any thoughts.

I'd stick with 225 max. The 235 might be too wide. Why take the risk for 10mm

Tire Rack shows 235/45/17 requiring a 7.5" inch wheel. I'm sure you could mount it, but I wouldn't risk it from a safety perspective.

Well anyone can argue anything looks better than something else, but if you're really into giving the car some wider rubber you'll want to put it on some wider wheels too, and if you go upsize in diameter you'll effectively make the car's gear ratios taller rendering it slower than the same car with smaller wheels. You'll also want to consider weight, even a difference as little a few pounds can change a lap time or fuel economy rather a bit.

The reason you'd want to be careful about this is sort of thing is that a larger tire on a smaller rim tends to squirm a bit and even have some sidewall rollover under cornering loads (especially when you're also braking) that not only negatively affects stability, but also putting wear on your sidewall... which is not where it belongs. (It also impacts where and how the suspension and wheelset bears the load, but that's a whole other conversation.)

If you want wider tires for more grip I'd say just get stickier tires. You can keep the stock size tire but opt for a extreme performance tire. The difference in physical grip will be immense.

Is it true that the stock tires are all season? They sound like it as they are kind of noisey. Since I don't drive the fun cars in winter I will be looking for a set of good handling summer tires.

The stock all season are pretty noisy on less than perfect roads.

    Hi Pete,
There are great looking summer tires with plenty of sticking ability that will enhance the car's performance. You should be able to have your cake and eat it too. Check out one of the forum's older threads on tires.

    Best,
    Atticus
