    MT: when to shift?

Question for fellow MT owners. When trying to maximize mpg driving in the city, at what rpm are you guys shifting at? The built-in guide seems to want to shift at roughly 2000 rpm. I've been shifting at around 2.5k.

I shift around 3200 because the trans feels notchy to me due the tripple cone synchro design but if i do desire fuel econ i keep a light foot and shift around 2800. shifing when the indicator comes on boggs the little boxer engine a lot and. causes you to do a lot more shifting. shifting at 2800 gives me around 28mpg with runnin high quality synthetics in full drivetrain.

I usually shift around 3.5k - 4k in normal driving and I'm averaging 29mpg with a mix of city and short freeway trips.

I haven't activated my shift indicator. When I shift to a higher gear I don't want my rpm's to drop below 23K.

It's not just what RPM you shift at but how heavy you are on the gas as well. I don't like shifting at low RPMs. Car doesn't have enough torque to get moving to speed if you shift at 2k rpm.
