It’s been two years since Toyota first revealed the FT-86 concept, and after numerous leaks, and even more concept teasers, the production version of the most highly anticipated car in years has been revealed. The very first photos of the production model also come with an announcement of the car’s name: the GT 86. Revealed in Euro-spec, the GT 86 will come with a dual exhaust, a rearspoiler, 17-inch wheels and an ’86 piston’ logo on the fenders.

Inside the cabin is a three-gauge cluster with a larger tachometer, with carbon fiber styled trim, an all black roof, red stitching, aluminum pedals and “aviation-style” switches. Also of note is a 365mm steering wheel – the smallest ever fitted to a Toyota.

With a total displacement of 1,998 ccs, the 4-cylinder direct-injection boxer engine produces 197-hp thanks to twin-injectors and a 12.5:1 compression ratio. Full power comes on at 7000 rpm with 151 lb-ft of torque at 6600 rpm. Toyota promises instant throttle response, with steering to match and, “the kind of performance that appeals to those for whom driving is a passion, not a necessity.”

So guys, what do you think of the car?

    1) I love the front-end.... very aggressive, looks great.

    2) I don't like the tail-lights. The rear seems far too subtle. Its doesn't even seem to fit together with the front-end. Its going to need some aftermarket help

    3) I find the 197 horsepower a bit underwhelming. I hope there will be an optional engine, or more power for the US market.

    4) Overall I'm still very excited and will definetly buy one.

Agree...nice looking car but way underpowered. Shame they couldn't find some horsepower to match the looks.

Wonder if they are waiting for a Turbo version to come out a year later like the Veloster did.... or just relying on the aftermarket.

The major concern for aftermarket turbo would be the high-compression motor ... might not be able to boost much.

    Absolutely hate the wheels!!!!!!!!!!

Hate to say this but I see Honda Accord Coupe all over this styling, especially the rear end.

Yeah the wheels kind of look a little bit like a 2007 Enkei tuner wheel.... but honestly, most people buying these cars will probably order new rims before they even take delivery of the car!!

The rear end definetly sucks. I hope someone will come out with a widebody that more closely emulates the Concept II -- that car is sick.

OMG. Toyota manage again drop a beautiful concept through a tree and bounce off a couple of ugly branches. Just saying

I think it'll all be ok in the end. Little mod here and there will do the trick. Overall I'm still pleased.
    The List:

    2004 Honda EP3 SSM
    2008 MUGEN Si
    2008 MS3 (Current)

    FUTURE: MY86

No doubt that rear end needs to get back to the concept's sharp and stylish appearance, and those circular fogs clash with the rest of the exterior's angular styling. Although I'm sure there was a reason that these things were changed, I really wish they weren't. Now, as for engine output, I'm very satisfied with 197hp. Ha! After all, I'm not buying a GT-R I'm buying an 86!

Agreed. The whole idea behind this car is to have a maximum amount of modding ability in an age of computers and owners often literally being "locked out" from under the hood of their cars. Overall, I'm happy with it....especially the styling.

I would like to see it with a drop and some wider rubber with more flush fitment. That may help things. It looks a little wimpy with those skinny multi-spoke busy looking wheels that in no way match the car. Those are straight out of the SUBIE playbook. Something with 5-6 spoke and some concavity.
