Toyota FT-86 II Concept: Same Look, New Color, Brembo Brakes [2011 Frankfurt Auto Show]

Toyota promised a "lighter, faster and sportier" FT-86 II Concept would debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Is that true? Maybe. No one at Toyota was talking about it so it's hard to say. Instead the brand's press conference focused on its continued push of hybrid technologies.

What we can tell you (and what you can see for yourself from the selection of photos) is that the FT-86 II Concept now has a shiny new burn orange paint job. New bodywork? Nope just the same old FT-86 II Concept from Geneva. But there is something more there behind the tires. For the first time (to our knowledge) the FT-86 is sporting a set of Brembo brakes, which is certainly good news for driving enthusiasts who are eager to get behind the wheel of this car.

When it finally does debut in production ford at the Tokyo Auto Show, look for a direct-injection 4-cylinder boxer engine with around 200-hp going to the rear wheels with a standard limited slip differential. In the mean time, check out the extensive gallery of photos below.

Toyota is good at staying tight-lipped on FT-86 information. But from the recent FT-86 pictures it looks like it's a faster version with the use of brembo brakes

Looking forward for more information as we get closer to the Tokyo Auto Show

how can you tell that its a faster version just from the pics. its exactly the same car as last time but they changed three things. no more center lock wheels, brembo brakes, and changed the paint to burn orange. theyre just showing a much closer version to the production model.

    Very true.

It's almost a given that any car that comes out with a serious braking system, will have a good reason behind it otherwise it would be pointless and bring the MSRP up for no reason and killing sales.

With all the testing Toyota, Scion and Subaru has been doing, these big brembo brakes are well needed.

At best this car is a low 14 second car, not exactly Brembo requirements for the stopping.

low 14 second still pretty zippy in my books, for that price not bad at all!

brembo for track usage,,you wont need massive breaks for a 1/4 car anyways the distance you have to break and launch a parachute

95% of any car made will NEVER see a track period. Sounds good, but in reality, most can't or don't track their car.

    1) It is usually your daily driver
    2) Beats the piss out of your tires and suspension
    3) Possible to wreck which is very expensive since no insurance is going to cover
    4) Costs......tires are not cheap, neither are clutches and Brembo brake pads.
    5) Most do not live any where near a track or have any experience, nor should they be on a track.
