Toyota FR-S/FT-86 on Track for November 2011 Launch

Toyota's FR-S/FT-86 sports car has not been delayed and is on track for a launch in November of next year. Rumors had suggested the entry-level sports car was delayed until 2013, but according to 7tune blogger Adam Zillin, who recently attended a Toyota event and spoke with G Sports Vehicle Management GM Dr. Shigeyuki Hori and group manager Kazuo Okino, the FR-S will arrive in late 2011. The management duo even said the vehicle is 50 percent completed, so we should expect to see prototypes running around soon. Better yet is word that, so far, the design of the car will remain mostly unchanged!

Additional info was also spilled about the highly anticipated machine, including news of three trim levels and two engines, with a mid-range model expected to cost 2.5 million yen ($28,500). A turbocharged engine is believed to be the top engine offered

At a different meeting later in the day, Toyota's Motor Sports Division boss, Tadashi Yamashina, made one particularly interesting comment, noting that because of the connection with Subaru there was, as 7tune puts it, "no way that the car wasn't going to be great."

I'm glad someone feels exactly the same way I do. Hahahaha. Now lets hope its not just one of Toyota's marketing tactics to keep people interested in the car. Remember the past couple months people have been voicing their dwindling interest in the car. It just seems too coincidental that they decide to announce this now when they could've done this as soon as rumors started spreading about the delayed release date.

they released more information in that one day than they have in the past year! can't wait for this thing to come out. only thing im worried about is how much the base model is going to be and how much more for the turbo motor.

I had almost forgot about the FT86 with summer and the hot weather. This is amazing!!

Good job for finally letting us know something Toyota, but what about that price tag? How much is the turbocharged version going to cost then?

Before long we'll start seeing spy shots of this car testing on various tracks. I can't wait to see if they actually keep weight down and give it enough horsepower to get out of it's own way!

I really really hope they stick to the November release date. As the days past the more its seem to be unlikely. They're debuting the another concept in a few months. So why would they do that if the actual production model is coming out in November anyway....?
