Toyota Opens Product Quality Field Offices to Bolster Image, Address Customer Concern

Toyota has announced that it will open six new product quality field offices (PQFOs) in different regions in North America next month, as it continues to reclaim its long-standing reputation for building quality vehicles. Earlier this year, Toyota opened its first such field office in New York and is set to open a second one in July in San Francisco.

Additional facilities are earmarked to be located in Jacksonville, FL to study heating, ventilation and air conditioning issues; Houston, TX to focus on trucks and chassis components; and Denver, CO to examine high altitude performance and SUV models. In addition two Canadian centers will be opened, with one in Calgary and one in Toronto.

Located with Toyota Motor Sales offices, Toyota wants to use the new PQFOs to investigate consumer complaints, with trained engineers and technicians working with local dealers and reporting to Toyota HQ. Toyota also says that the data it obtains from these new centers will be used in future quality improvement.

That's very good news. It should regain some lost faith from some of it's previous customers.

Good job Toyota. I think they're rebounding quite well.

This isn't going to help much until they actually fix the problems they still have. The ABS computers have faulty programming regardless of what they say. I've got an FJ Cruiser and while they say there's nothing wrong with them, I can regularly get all four brakes to lose 90% braking power when the ABS engages. I understand ABS, but there's something wrong when the ABS is engaged and it takes over 600ft to stop from 60mph. There will be more accidents and issues until these bugs are worked out. With that said, I still love my Toyota and would purchase the FT-86. The first thing I do however will be to take the car through the same maneuvers that cause the ABS problems on my FJ to see if it does it. At least then I'll know when to be prepared for brake failure...

lets just hope the product quality field offices do their job. aside from the problems here and there toyota is an amazing brand that used to build exciting cars. hopefully the ft86 brings back that old toyota spirit.
