    Exclamation Discussion Thread: MKV Supra

I'm a huge fan of the MKIV Supra (how can you not be ) and it's been a while that Toyota produced an affordable 6 cylinder sports car. Currently the LFA is as close as you get to a MKV Supra, yet still far off.

It's possible that we might get a MKV Supra, but the Supra days may be long gone.

    Things to discuss:

    - Price/MSRP
    - Specifications
    - Release Date
    - Exterior/Interior Design
    - Performance
    - Engine Options - Hybrid, Electric, Gasoline
    - MPG
    - Color Options
    - Accessories
    - Suspension
    - Safety Features
    - Convertible option

Feel free to discuss anything else related.

It all depends on what Toyota wants out of their image. The FT-86 hints that they are starting to/trying to/thinking about concentrating more on performance and the tuner youth market. Nissan has done a good job with catering to the performance market with their G37 370z GTR R35 and all of those models have become a huge success. Toyota has been concentrating on family sedans and affordable hybrids. It seems to be working but I dont think Toyota should forget their performance market. The Toyota Supra, Celica, MR2. These cars all did well and I don't know why Toyota would want to stop making these cars. I would imagine the MKV supra to be similar to the GTR R35 in terms of pricing, specifications, and target market. It would be huge if Toyota came out with a new Supra that lives to the MKIVs heritage.

If Toyota makes a MKV Supra, for it to be successful it needs:

    * MSRP of $50-60K at most

    * Engines: Hybrid, Inline 6 & V8

    * Horsepower around 400, Torque also around 400

Basically it just needs to be fast enough in it's performance trim to keep up with the GT-R, Genesis, Mustang, and other similar cars

It should be as quick as the new GTR. Around same price as GTR would make sense.

MSRP of $50 000 - 60 000 would be really nice, but with all the stuff the MKV Supra will need to keep up with it's competition I bet it will cost around $80 000 - 100 000. MKV Supra competition like the GT-R and M3 are priced pretty high but well worth it.

A Toyota Supra replacement at 100k would work as long as its as good as the M3 and GTR. I believe it would sell.

It would have to be paired above the FR-S and the 350z and other cars since its name is up there with car such as the RX-7, Godzilla and such other cars!

And those are made to compete with the M3 and other cars so i would honestly agree it would be in the ball park north of 70k! which really isnt realistic for Toyota, or so it seems since they haven't awaken from their slumber yet!

Toyota just announced that they are going to concentrate on what is appealing to the market over environmentally friendly cars. A new supra would be the right way to go.

Speaking of the RX-7. Anyone else think the RX-8 does not at all follow the legend of the RX-7? It shouldn't even have the same name. That is my opinion.

I think Mazda has ceased production on the Mazda RX-8 to concentrate more on some new piston technology. I say BS they are making an RX-9 lol

I would say the LFA and a Supra are 2 totally different cars, would more compare a Supra to an IS-F not an LFA.

I really doubt you could even considering an FR-S to be a an LFA

Within the past two days there has been MKV supra speculation and some sources saying it's for sure that Toyota WILL release a Supra, but nothing saying when we will expect it.

I will be posting all the recent articles on the MKV Supra, everyone feel free to post articles or any new supra related news! Lets get this thread going!!!

    From AutoGuide.com

New Toyota Supra Back in the Product Plan

There once was a time when Toyota used to have many sporty coupes in its line-up, like the MR-2, Celica and even a Camry V6 coupe. However, their flagship model was the Supra, a car that could keep up and beat almost anything offered by the Germans or the Americans at the time.

In the last decade, Toyota had axed all its sporty coupes, with the Supra bowing out in 2002, leaving many fans wanting for more.

Over the last few years, the rumor-mill has been busy with talk about the resurrection of the Supra, most of which revolve around a slightly toned down version of the Lexus LFA.

While Toyota officially denies these rumors, according to some insiders, a skunkworks project is underway and we could see a new Supra by 2014. Whether it be based on the FT-86 or the LFA platform (or something entirely new) is not known. Either way, sportscar fans can’t wait to see the fifth-generation Supra. Neither can we.

Also the below from lextreme which brings up some good things we can discuss about the next generation supra which might be known as the MKV supra:

MKV Toyota Supra - The New Generation

Since the beginning of Japanese sport cars battle started few decades ago. There had been a constant battle between Nissan, Mazda and Toyota. The famous Mazda Rx7, the Nissan 350Z and the Toyota Supra. Currently the Mazda produced a fine rotary motor on the Rx8 and last year, the Nissan started to sell the Fairlady and now Toyota is currently working on the fifth generation Toyota Supra. The history of the battles of the imports always have been that Toyota is always last of the three major automobile companies in Japan. Why last? Toyota is saving the best for last. Toyota have some ready already and waiting for the competitors to release their cars and Toyota will make the MKV have more horsepower and handle better then the competitors.

There had been few rumors how the new generation Supra looks like, but no concrete news release by the Toyota headquarter. However, in this page we are not too interested in the cosmetic of the fifth generation Supra, but rather the heart of the car. Which engine will Toyota use to power the new beast. Here are some of the requirements I think should be a consideration when making this beast.

    1. It must handle better than the Rx8 and the Nissan 350Z
    2. It must have more horse power than Mazda Rx8 and Nissan 350Z
    3. It must have more horse power than MKIV Supra (320 bhp)
    4. The price must stay within the early $30K

Now, which engine will power the fifth generation Supra? The 2JZGTE is ancient technology for the 2006 model. Not to disrespect the legendry strip/street terror, but time have changed. Its was great for the early 90 to the early 2000. One of the most common problems I got MKIV Supra owners was the T word. Yes, TORQUE. The car made great power at 8,000 rpm and minimum torque at lower end. Torque is what make driving fun. With larger displacement like the 4.3 liter V8, creating torque would not be a problem at all. The goal is to produce lowend torque and high end power. Now, we are in the new century and Toyota would like to moved up in the technology scale. Secondly the aftermarket for the MKIV is a dying industry. Slowly but surely, those Supras are parting out for parts from severe automobile accidents. Well, there were few rumors about which engine to be used. If Toyota want to stay with natural aspirated engine, then the natural choice of engine would be the Lexus 4.3 liter DOHC V8. This engine is currently powering the Lexus LS430, GS430 and SC430. This motor is the 3rd generation of the UZFE family (Actually 2nd Generation, the 2UZFE is not as strong as the 1UZFE or the 3UZFE due to the bottom end) The 3UZFE is a awesome engine with strong bottom end supported by forged steel crank and 6 bolt main. There are also rumors that the 4.3 liter might be bore and stroke to 5.4 liter.

Currently the 4.3 liter (3UZFF) is rated at 300 bhp. However, the 4.3 liter can be tune and massage to increase the bhp to 350-375 bhp. With 5.4 liter, this can go up to 400-425 bhp. With Toyota being conservative historically, I would suspect the 4.3 liter. One the other hand, forced induction might be an opinion in future production. Since the 3UZFE is in a V configuration, twin turbo would be out of the picture. The complexity of plumbing, reliability and maintenance would be too much for the conservative automobile manufacture. However, a TRD supercharger might not be a bad idea also, but I highly doubt this would happen. With the Supra aftermarket manufactures like HKS, Greddy and just to name a few, I would not be surprise forced induction kit would be available few months after the car is released. One thing for sure, forced induction on the V8 Supra will not be cheap, but whoever can afford it would have a blast.

I just can not imagine the New Supra powered by a V8. The 2JZGTE made automotive history with its monstrous power by a 3.0 liter with snail/s. Can you imagine what type of horsepower it would be if its in a 4.3 liter with few snail/s? Its would be a huge threat to all sport cars like the Corvette Z06, Porsche 911 TT, Viper, Ford's New GT40 and many other expensive high performance sport cars. This will be a BEAST on and off the track. So, start saving your money or start selling your MKIV Supra.

Here are my predictions on the MKV Supra:
    1. Handles better then its rivals
    2. Have more horsepower than its rivals & previous Supras
    3. Price stay in low $30k
    4. Powered by the massaged Lexus 4.3 liter DOHC (3UZFE) with 330-350 bhp with auto or 6 speeds.
    5. MKV Supra only available in N/A trim
    6. MKIV Supra price will drop like hot cakes, so sell your aged Supra now before the next generation Supra arrives.
