i keep hearing about people putting nitrogen in their car and how its a million times better than regular air that you get at the gas station. i was wondering is it worth the $20/avg that shops charge to fill up your tires?

Here's a pretty informative article about the truths and myths about putting nitrogen in your tires. Any questions you have should be answered in the article.

Nope have yet to make the switch, but FT86-guys article may make me.
Thanks for the article. I was really debating doing this to my car but you just help me save $20. Its not a lot but still thats $20 I can put towards something else. I'd just rather regularly check my tires pressure and refill it for free.
It still seems like an impulse purchase the dealer can get you for. $20 may not seem like alot but it ads up when you are already getting an oilchange and filter etc.
I heard its a big scam too but i use it 'cause its free thru the place i bought my tires![]()
It's just another tactic to help separate you from your money. The biggest thing you want to look for when filling your tires is that the shop, gas station, wherever, has a moisture removal system for their air pressure supply. Any business worth their salt will have one, but some will not with your local gas station being the most common ones without. One problem that results is when moisture is introduced to aluminum alloy wheels which over time will corrode, and one symptom is that you constantly lose pressure due to an improper bead seal because of the corrosion.
