    Autopista Drives FR-S / FT-86 / BRZ Prototype

    Points to be noted here.
    • The engineers stated that there will be two manual gearbox options with different ratios
    • The Toyota will be the most affordable of the three choices (BRZ FR-S FT-86)
    • The test unit had Michelin Primacy HPs tires in 215/45 size on 17" wheels
    • The car's electronics (ECU) is unlocked so aftermarket industry can tune it at its will
    • It's going to be on sale on June of 2012

this is going to be nuts!

Shorter gearing on the transmission would be great and also an unlock ecu would mean we could tune on the fly, when new parts are bring installed?

This is going to make this car much more attractive for the aftermarket industry. The unlocked ECU is a huge feature. The shorter gears should give a quicker 0-60 time.

i agree 0-60 times would improve a lot over the reported 7.0 time

2 different manual transmissions and a tune-able ECU with the known engine = a killer combo!

As for improved 0-60 times, I wonder how much of a difference there will be. Also the price difference between the two.

Not too sound like a complete noob but anyone want to explain to me what exactly is great about the car's electronic (ECU) being unlocked? Does it make the car more universal?

Easy to crack and change variables vs. needing someone to spend forever or need a special tuning solution to be able to do it. Plug and play essentially.

Things like the air-fuel ratio and timing are probably open to be changed through the stock ECU via a FLASH. The flash overwrites what the ECU holds in data with new data.

Yeaup pretty much allow you to tune on the go, change cam profiles, a/f ratio, and voltage and stuff like that as well, it goes a long way in any car giving tuning on the fly!

They should have done a comparison of the FT-86 vs the AE-86 vs the Supra vs the Celica. They had all of them there with them.. That would have been an insanely popular article.

i still think the Supra would dominate in terms of speed and the fr-s with the modern day technology to dominate over all! just with the snappy ness of the car in general!

the supra in terms of power is OP

but i think stock vs stock the supra should handle like a pig just due its weight.

All this ability to tune the FR-S and and mess with the original parts on the car almost unlike any car out their from the factory has me wondering what sort of warranty will the FR-S come with, since tuning it past some point could have the dealership saying "that was caused by your own negligence"
