Compare the specs with table link

Found this compiled on another site. This sucks IMO.

The high spec gets 215 tires vs. the 205 for the low spec. The high spec weighs more. The torque is hideous. No performance gains in the high vs. low spec, so I guess you get the bigger tires and a wing (IE appearance crap only). Yeah, the wider tires help as does the wing for performance but they also add weight which is now 2700 lbs........what happened to under 2500?????!!!!

I can't get the jpeg to upload. Sorry.

215 tires are pretty weak in a rear wheel drive sports car. Wonder why they went with such thin tires.

They should have gone staggered like the GC. I would think 235 or even better 245 on the rear and maybe 225 on the fronts. I am trying to remain positive but it is getting more difficult, the more I am seeing and hearing.

A RWD Celica is not the beacon of performance I was hoping for.

Really didn't expect to see 215 wide tires on the spec list for the FT-86. Expected to see 245's at the most!

I guess for Toyota to get the results they wanted, going with 215's were enough. I just wonder how different it will perform with wider tires, such as 235's or 245's.

I doubt you will be able to get anywhere near that big stuffed in there without serious lip rolling. That is probably why they stuck with 215's. That is as big as they can fit is my guess.

It could have been a tradeoff between wide tires and weight reduction. They probably figured that the serious drivers were going to put aftermarket wheels (probably light weight ones) so why bother putting heavier, wider rims factory. If this is the case, then a wider set of rear wheels would have been expected, and hopefully planned for. How many people on the Mod thread on this forum said their first mod would be wheels? It was quite a few if I remember correctly.

ideally i see the low spec more of a race spec version, and the high spec version just for people who dont really modify cars.

I see the low spec version with after market wider rims, the stock steering wheel taking out and an after market one put in, along with racing buckets for the low spec and so, on and other things added on here and there.

If they wanted to save weight by going with 215 tires because of performance we better see some good OEM tires. Don't understand why the test cars have Toyota Prius tires then.

Maybe they gave toyta prius tires just to give you the thrill that it can go side ways and was a tad tail happy and still performed decent on crappy tires?

That is a terrible idea. I really hope they don't give the FR-S FT-86 really bad tires. Many reviewers just use whatever tires are given to them by the manufacturer to do testing and comparisons. I think the FR-S FT-86 would look pretty bad against competitors if it had dollar store tires.

for a 200 HP car, I doubt we will need any crazy tires for it in factory form. Toyota has a reason for putting these on the FR-S and it's probably a good one, I doubt they will put anything on it that will kill it's performance.

so who knows maybe the Prius has amazing tires lol

the prius tires really aren't that great though... I personally think the ft-86 needs grippier tires.
