    Toyota FT-86 FR-S Manual Transmission / Gearbox

This is all the info available on the official FT-86 testmule / prototype. Not sure if these characteristics will carry on to production or onto the Scion FR-S but it is information nonetheless.

    -Close-ratio Aisin gearbox
-60mph in sixth gear brings up 2500rpm
    -Short throw shifts

Aisin makes transmissions for the likes of the Honda S2000, Mazda Miata MX-5, RX-8, Lexus IS200, Celica, MR-S, Mazda 6, Eclipse, Alfa Romeo and Volvo also use Aisin. The Porsche 911 has also been known to use the SP6 — 6-speed transaxel

For the base model FR-S, not knowing how it will be, but judging from what car makers usually do, this transmission probably wont be available on a base model FR-S/ FT86. On the performance models, I have no doubts we will get this exact same transmission.

    Anyone agree?

I suspect this will be a somewhat low volume vehicle and having multiple setups actually increases production costs, so my guess it that all manuals will have the same transmission.

I don't think the FR-S or the dual spec FT-86 will have a different transmission. They should all be the same. That is my guess.

confirmed in a fact sheet released over the weekend was that both base model and top trim level will have the same transmission.

make sense to me as having 2 different transmissions might make things a bit more costly for Toyota. this way they can keep costs down for themselves and the consumer.

Scion only does mono options with a F**K ton of options for you to pick out and pretty much have a fully modded car, off the floor with all parts installed for you.

I wonder if Scion will have the TRD parts as an option. The TRD FT-86 is pretty nice. The brakes 6 pot and 4 pot rear. That is just insanely powerful stopping force.

1st gear must be extremly long and the final drive must be a low one, with maybe shorted 2nd 3rd n 4th gears making it a lot easier on street settings, but a 7.0 0-60 time is a bit slow..

Don't think the gear ratios are out yet. But I am guessing either 1st gear or 2nd gear is longer then necessary because 0-60 is kind of slow.

The data does not add up to having such a slow 0-60. I am guessing its due to bad tires.

im guessing too that 1st gear is extremely long.... or it would be over inflated bad tiers too...

So apparently according to a recent Autopista review of the prototype the car will be receiving two manual transmissions. This is according to the engineers they were speaking to. The difference will be the ratios. I am guessing one will be quicker to improve acceleration. As well this prototype was sporting Michelin Primacy HPs instead of the Green X tires.
