Toyota FT-86 is designed with drifters in mind!

Another interesting finding on the FT-86 production model.
The Stability control system will allow the FT-86 to go sideways! With the stability control system off maybe it can pull off some crazy drifting? who knows.

    Discuss!

The FT-86 especially is designed to appeal to the drifters - the stability control system even allows a dab of sideways before it tells you off. It'll be lithe, too - Toyota says it's 200kg lighter than a VW Scirocco (around 1100kg). It gets some trick suspension refinements, too - top-spec dampers and Euro-biased handling. Price? Around £20,000. Which seems very reasonable.

Glad to know the traction control still allows a bit of fun before they take you away from it completely. Excited about these so called top spec dampers and euro spec handling.

this is great news for the drifting community knowing that the FR-S will be capable of drifting even with stability control in the on position, when off....being a car that is RWD & LSD equipped it could make someone the next drift king hahahaa

well at least the next drift king with the right amount of modifications!

cool that it can drift a bit with traction control but for ppl who don't want to drift, will it handle good and not spin out or lose traction since the traction control doesn't fully stop the car from going out of control.

You need to watch some initial D. drifting in a 200hp car is def possible.

200HP was the speculated horsepower which I would say is about right. But we have yet to hear official numbers from Toyota. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit more.

200HP on a car the size of a Miata with a proper suspension setup which the FR-S will be getting is enough ingredients for a drift ready car.

Just look at what guys did before and are still doing with the AE86, some don't make big power but still can drift nicely.

stock sr20's only have 220 hp... while a stock KA from a 240sx only produces around 160 hp...

I think formula D cars with their 700hp cars have been drilled into your head..

    Grass roots drifting man!

Keiichi Tsuchiya drifting a AE86 which probably has around 200HP, not the perfect example but it's close.....

obviously you can't get serious drifts like in this video.....with a stock FR-S that is
im itching to see a fr-s on roids that can pull off some sick drifting

^ good enough of an example

To just do basic drifting, nothing too crazy to go through x amount of tires in a day won't be something that will require a lot. It all comes down to having a FR car, manual transmission, a tight suspension and L.S.D. for longer drifts

just don't expect the fr-s to be an instant drift car out of the box.

OK, I see, you mean 40-60 MPH drifts, not slow and controlled horsepower drifts. Yeah, you can to that with any car.

yeah also any can mash a 700hp car and call it drifting...

you can do that with any car with low HP,

heres a video Forumla D Drivers with Massive amounts of HP in their regular cars, yet i dont see these guys being able to do the "drift thing"

    just saying enjoy!

yeaaap. High powered drifting is definitely more dangerous and adrenaline pumping but there is a bit more power sliding involved in high powered drifting then actual drifting.
