seems as if Toyota took the AE86 design and rounded all the straight lines to make the FR-S! You can see some of the 86 in the FR-S, but not a lot. Overall the FR-S is a great AE86 remake.

I think its very very loosely based on the old AE86. But the FR-S looks a lot like the Hyundai Genesis coupe. But the Genesis is just a bit more bubblier.

I see where your getting at with the Genesis coupe, but i can only see very minor design features from that on the FR-S.

Now if we were to compare both front and rear ends of the AE86 & FR-S.... well i don't think we can! they look by far, different......

it like they expanded the front headlights when closed and then compressed the rear tail lights.. there are someee close notes here and there, but i still think a hatch back would work best...

I'd agree, I think at the very least they wanted the FR-S to be perceived as a "legacy" vehicle by consumers.

having the option of a FR-S hatchback and coupe would be sooo cool, just like how they did it back in the days.

lets not forget that Toyota is building the car for us, the enthusiast! maybe Toyota does have a FR-S hatch design ready for production but waiting for the right time to release it.
