What do you guys think..Turbo or not?

Ever since I saw the ft-86 concept I've been mesmerized by it's cosmetics. But the more I read, the more I get frustrated. I know it's early in the process, but I've seen the road Toyota has been taking. It's geared towards economy and practical. Well, from what I've read and seen about the ft-86, and what it's supposedly going to be, it's anything from practical.

A sports car is suppose to be invigorating, attractive (wh/ the ft86 is), and FAST!! I like the idea of the 2.0 boxer from Subaru. Great! But give us a turbo 2.0! What market are they going after? Really, the days of the Celica GTS, RSX-S, Civic SI, and even S2000, are coming to an end in my eyes. Why not give this model some punch! Especially since it's RWD!!

I've driven, and owned, most of the cars listed in the paragraph above (Owned a Celica GTS and RSX-S) and I can tell you, from owning them, more performance is a must. Not that these cars aren't great cars, but really...they're not REAL sports cars.

Also, new Subaru WRX comes w/ a 2.5T boxer producing 265hp...the thought of that engine in the ft-86, or even a 2.0T, just gets me going!!

I guess I can only wait, and from I've heard, be disappointed with the performance turnout of this car. But I can hope that Toyota will actually produce a sports car worthy of being in the same class as the 350/370z or even the s2000.

I really hope there will be a turbo version but my gut feeling is there won't be. But I'm sure the FT86 will be very popular so expect aftermarket turbos to be readily available after the car comes out.

Yes, I agree. This car is going to be a hot item...no doubt about that. Aftermarket parts for this car will be abundant. I just hope TRD really offers some great stuff. Would be nice to see TRD come out with upgrades (Turbo/sc, exhaust, headers, etc) to keep the factory warranty...might be asking a bit much for the turbo/sc..but who knows.

I think everyone knows there will be a turbo for this car, it just depends how long it takes to develop it in the aftermarket.

My gut feeling tells me it won't be Toyota that releases the turbo for the car though.

Toyota does make a super charger for the Tacoma's. Granted it's made by TRD (and I can't think of who makes the equipment for TRD) but there is hope... The question remains if it will be factory installed.

Given with what Toyota seems to want to do with this car I can't see why they wouldn't provide a full range of TRD parts installed at the dealership when the customer gets their car. I think they could make a ton of money off the TRD parts/install and the convenience of installing them and not voiding any warranty.

I was under the understanding that TRD parts are usually overpriced and have expensive installs at the dealer...is this the truth or just another great internet rumor?

Given time, research and development by the aftermarket, you will usually find greater choice, better range and cheaper prices for aftermarket gear than the stuff TRD usually produces. And yes, in my personal experience, TRD gear is expensive and dealer installs are very pricey. IMO, TRD should focus on producing the stuff that the aftermarket may never do, due to price and limited demand, like trick LSD's and multiple final drive ratios and close ratio gearboxes.

It's starting to sound more and more like the only turbo version we will see is in the Subaru version of the car.

Its all starting to remind me of a Nissan / Infiniti relationship where Nissan will get a lower model, say the 350Z and then Inifiniti comes out with a very similar but different G35 sport coupe.

Seems like Toyota and Subaru will have a similar relationship with the 'FT86'
