Issues with my FR-S, more recalls?

Ok, I posted this awhile back about the car idling strange. Well, they got the 5 parts including the new fuel pump, but car still has and idling issue. It jumps around between 500-900 rpms. Then, this morning we had some frost, and now the auto up down part of the window quit working. It will go down, and stay there, which sucks, because it rains here a lot. Then, for the second time, the truck is popping open under fast left turns. The last thing is I am getting a burning rubber smell in my car after driving for more than 20 minutes. It took almost 2 months to get the fuel pump in, and the other parts, and that looks like it stopped the backfiring in the intake, or I have not heard it lately. They have looked at the burning rubber smell, and cannot find anything. I bought this thing, so I did not have to work on it, and I am getting upset, because this thing has more issues then my 911 has, and I have beat the heck out of it. Anyone else having these issues? There maybe another recall, I am not sure. Will someone please put a sticky up with the issues these cars are having, so other owners can see if it is randum, or a common issue. Thanks for the site, and any help

Huh?. I would like to help you cure some of these concerns but it would be easier if you broke it down, used some punctuation and split them up a bt, slightly overwhelming to read and decipher, what's related to what, also more details. Mileage, accidents etc

I've noticed the same burning rubber smell, but I think it's just factory burnoff or those crap tires that came stock..
Hope you get your window and trunk situation taken care of, can't really say that I've had any issues with mine other than high idle at start but it's been cold down here, just need to give the engine time to warm up and then the RPMs drop significantly.
    Good luck.

I have had my car for 2 1/2 months. It has just over 4000 miles. My idle issue starts after it is warmed up, then it jumps around, feels like the car is going to die when I am at a light. It shakes bad when it gets down to 500 RPMs.
The window issue started this morning with some frost, when I opened the door, window went down, then will not go back up on its own. It will go up once I manually make it, but sucks when I get out.
The trunk thing has happened 2 times now, and it just seems everything just starts happening at once. It did it once on the freeway, with a trunk full of stuff, and today with trunk empty, but I was making a fast left turn.

I would highly suggest taking it back to the dealership you purchased it from. There may be a few things that they can fix and/or replace. It seems like it's an early enough model that maybe there are actual recalls for the model as early as yours.
You are putting premium grade fuel in it though, right? That might be causing the rpm issue. I can't really figure out why the trunk would just pop open like that, but definitely something that you're going to want to get fixed right away.
Everything should fall under the 3 year, 36,000 mile warranty that comes standard with any Toyota/Scion.
Just take it back up to the dealership, let them know what has been going on with the FR-S and be very persistant about these issues getting fixed.
    Good luck, keep us posted.

I would have already taken it back to the dealer. Nothing we can say will fix the problems. On a brand new car I'd go back and ask what is wrong.

    I've had all theses issues.

-things in the trunk opened it
-the window eventually reset on mine, take it in to a dealer and start a case if it does it
-the burning rubber is your tires, mine do it too
-the idle should get better if your drive it right and let that ecu time out

    Cool

    Hello Everyone,

I'm new here to the forum. I went to Scion website in late November to look at the Scion tC that i wanted to buy and discovered the Scion FR-S. I was driving my FR-S less than a week later in early December. I got the Manumatic and love it. Still can shift with the stick, use the wheel paddles or just chillax and let the slushbox do it.
I've driven all kinds of cars, trucks (4-18 wheelers) and bikes since I was 13, and the FR-S is definitely the most fun.
So many ways, and roads to drive the FR-S manumatic ... never boring.

    1. Burning Rubber Smell: From new engine belts when engine is revved up over 4000 rpm repeatedly, and especially when car has less than 2000 kms on it. I've smelled it too and while I'm driving with winter tires on snow and ice packed roads ( great for drift practice ) so it isn't my tires burning on pavement.

    2. Window switches stop working and start to flash:
This happens when windows freeze and the door window auto open can't work properly. See manual how to reset window switches. ( click click click hold )

    3. Trunk opening while driving: Left knee touches trunk release, or body in trunk bumps the internal trunk release.

    4. Irregular Idle: Reset ECU ... Immediately after a reflash, the car may act like it's down on power and feel sluggish. That's because the reset of the ECU will clear the learned values, so the ECU will be using a known safe calibration. When you drive it again for the first 100 miles or so after the reflash, drive it assertively and the gas pedal will get sharper and the power will return. I have also used regular gasoline and never experienced rough idle. I drove my FR-S with gusto from my initial test drive with 23 kms on it but kept revs below 4500 for first 1000 kms. I also was driving in cold weather during December so I warmed up engine 10 mins with remote starter, and then drove normally and drifted easily. ( road and traffic conditions permitting )

Ok, you were right on the window switch and the trunk. Turns out my truck was being opened by my tote back there, and the window was reset and works fine.
Now, I will talk to them about the computer reset, because they told me yesterday it was fine, because nothing came up on the computer. Well, my truck has the overdrive going out, and it has now kicked a code either, but doesn't mean it is not broken. I think I will take it to a different dealer.

All you have to do is take the battery cables off of your battery, touch them together and then reconnect. That resets the ECU.

I will give that a shot.

I still can't believe that having things in your trunk will open it, since, let me guess, that is what a trunk is made for? LOL

That is really odd considering we've pretty much stuffed the trunk on more than one occasion now and nothing has happened to us.

    I thought so too.
It has done it 2 times, once with the trunk full, and it popped open on the freeway. Thank God I was doing 70 and the air flow was keeping it from opening.
The second time, I was making a left turn, and I had the 4 pocket tote in the back, and it was empty. I hit a bump in the turn, and the door light came on.
Please don't get me wrong, I love this car, I just want things right. I own a few cars and trucks, I bought this so I did not have to work on it. I am not saying I won't mod things, but it would be nice to have everything working right on it.

No, I totally understand, it just seems like you might have a faulty latch. Even though removing the tote from the trunk may have solved the problem you were having, you might want to take it up to have the trunk latch looked at. There's no reason for the trunk to open like that. It's still under warranty, I would do it just for peace of mind.

I was at the Dealer Friday, and they are the ones that told me the tote must be hitting the emergency trunk release and that is what popped it. I think it is BS. I do work on high end cars for a living, and I would never send a car back to a customer with any issue. It drives me nuts when a mechanic cannot fix something unless the computer spits out a code.
