    Scion FR-S reliability

I wanted more up-to-date car reliability information that made the differences between cars clearer. So a few years ago I started getting people together to make this possible. TrueDelta now updates actual repair frequencies, not just dots, four times a year, to report on new cars like the FR-S sooner then track them closely as they age.

We might have an initial result for these cars as soon as November. So far 22 owners are signed up. To publicly release a result, we need at least 25 responses. One of our members suggested that people here might be interested.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, following the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, participants receive full access to all results, not just those for their own model, for free. I'll share results for the FR-S in this thread after each update.

I'm the member who suggested it - I went to register my FR-S (when it was just released) and Michael had to add it to the database!

TrueDelta is great - great data for anyone interested in new or used cars. I've used it to help friends who were considering different cars and mostly care about reliability over anything else. Also, it was helpful with our other newish car (Odyssey) the issues to be aware of and how they were fixed. Light years better than the stupid "circles" of consumer reports.

I can also report Michael enjoys driving the FR-S (I might have some personal knowledge of that one....). Ha!
    -----------------------
'98.5 Contour SVT - mine since new - numerous upgrades including 3.0L block, quaife LSD, open pipe headers, full cat back exhaust, and more (to be replaced by FR-S but 14 years is a good life together)
    '01 Camry 5S-FE - extra car - 147k trouble free miles.
'11 Odyssey EX-L - familymobile and hauler - applesauce-embedded carpets and other great features!

29 owners now signed up. A very good start--we will have a preliminary stat next month, and a full stat in November. But more participants would make the November stat more precise. So if you haven't joined, I hope you'll consider it.

I'd say in terms of general function the car is very reliable. It's got the names to back it up (Subaru/Toyota) all the problems so far have been minor ones with the exception of it stalling which isnt a widespread problem.

So far majority of FR-S are proving to be reliable but as time goes on there could be things that come up.

These stats do update quarterly, so we'll be tracking them much more closely than other, annual surveys.

A few more owners have signed up, but we're not yet to 40+ cars, which is preferable. Just a few days left to get a car included for the fourth quarter.

My dealer opted to reseal the tail light as opposed to replacing it outright and performed a reflash. No more condensation and rough idling issues for me so far.

Fuel pump was for a noise that didnt affect reliability and tail lights don't really depict reliability for clarification

    Thanks!

We have initial car reliability stats for the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ based on owner experiences through September 30, 2012.

With a very low reported repair frequency of 14 repair trips per 100 cars per year, they're better than average so far. The number is likely to increase with the next update, though, as fixes are implemented for some common if minor problems.

Thank you, everyone who helped make this possible. We'll have further updates in February and May. The more owners participate, the more precise these will be.
