Best Car magazine reports FT-86/FR-S to be priced around 16k.....

just when things seemed pretty solid regarding information about the ft-86. here comes another rumor. 4wheelnews is reporting that japan's best car magazine is reporting the ft-86 to be priced around 16k for the base model. while i really really want this to be true until i actually confirmation from toyota im going to take this as just a possible rumor. although i should mention that best car magazine is usually spot on with information.

Would it have hubcaps at that price? That's about the equivalent of a base model Matrix as far as pricing goes so I think they could do it and it'd still have the basic power options, remote keyless entry and stuff. I don't know if the boxers are more expensive than the basic Toyota inline-4's or not though.
It'll be an interesting next few months as more firm information starts to come out.

I highly doubt it a car that looks that good? but now if were talking basics say 16 in ch wheels with hubcaps and things like that and taking off the carbon fiber with a 4 speed transmission maybe i highly doubt it though.

Sure, you wouldn't have carbon fiber and LED's or anything, but I'm thinking the sheet metal is just sheet metal and this car would have just as much as a Matrix, if not less. I think the expense would be more in the mechanicals and the R&D, but Subaru may be sharing enough of that cost as well to keep the car cheap.

Lets just hope that it will be around that price range. If it is then I'm definitely heading over to Toyota to put a deposit on one of these as soon as they're accepting pre-orders.

I only wans the base to be 16k, becus then you'd expect the mid level turbo version to be around 20-23k

The lower the base price is the better it is for everyone. Regardless which trim model you plan on getting. Since a lower base price will translate into lower prices throughout the model lineup.

Not to break everyones spirits but there is no way it will sell for that much!! The Honda CR-Z is being marked as half the car and its still 20k, how will Toyota ever be able to reach 16k!?!?

cr-z is half the car in terms of performance. but you forgot that the cr-z is a hybrid. hybrids cost a lot more than their regular gas powered counterparts. usually thousands more. which is why the ft86 can and most likely will be priced less than the cr-z.

I wouldn't think the CR-Z is a competitor to the FT86. It is more of a competitor of Prius especially with Fwd.

Personally, I think a reasonably equipped car will be 23K. But for marketing purpose, the car may start at 16K and spans all the way to the top of the line 29K.

Anything more than 29K, then those customers will be looking at different car category.

Going into the low 30k range opens up a lot more options. But I still can't help buy want the FT-86 over any other car within that price range.

If this low price tag is true, I am one happy guy. I was wondering how much I would have to shell out for the 86.

i still keep hoping that the source is pretty accurate on this one. but for now its just a waiting game were playing with toyota. they keep making us wait and wait for any news and rarely confirm anything. even then they backtrack sometimes.
