What car would you get?
it really depends. first of all we dont have an actual price for the ft-86 out yet. assuming they keep their promise of a 20k ft-86 base model. i would be also in the market for a hyundai genesis 2.0t, used nissan 370z, used honda s2000, and maybe even a nice used evo 8 or 9. for the price range of the ft-86 it will be hard to find something comparable in terms of a brand new car.
probably a celica and mod it out with the extra cash or a 350z and do the same maybe a subaru imprezza if the price is right and mileage isnt too bad
For the same price, I don't find any car at this range except a used cars. That's why Toyota shouldn't worry about competitor. Honda, Chev Camaro and Ford Mustang is a different market. It would be nice if Toyota follows BMW step in having a restoration center for its RWD Toyota's or selling OEM parts or compatible parts to restore their owner generation vehicles.
The Hyundai Genesis is very very close to the targeted price of the FT-86. Also a base Genesis is a 2.0L turbo for around 24k. The 2.0L turbo version of the FT-86 is expected to be priced a few thousand dollars more than that. Both are rear wheel drive 2 door sports coupes that have pretty similar features and hp rating.
Also you will never see Toyota offer anything like that for their cars. Most BMW drivers can afford the premium price to restore their classic cars. Most old Toyota owners can't even afford the price of a brand new motor for their cars.
I drove in my buddies Hyundai Genesis Coupe this past weekend and was very impressed by it. I'm hoping that Toyota takes the FT86 to a notch higher, but still good job Hyundai and the work done on the Genesis!
I think I would consider an Infiniti G35.
There is no new car in the price range expected for the FT 86 that I would want. The car I want is a Cayman but I won't allow myself to let go of that kind of money. I'm hoping the FT will satisfy me.
99.99% of male drivers want a Cayman. Thankfully a majority of them either don't have the funds for it or are smart enough not to drop that much cash on a stock car. One good example is a friend of mine that has had his 300zx for a while. He got in bone stock and to date spent over 60k on modifying the car. Most of the money went into the engine bay. Now he has a car that handles better and is a lot faster than any stock car you can get for 100k or under. I'd rather have a FT-86 and modify it to better than Cayman specs and still have it for less than half the price of the Cayman.
1995 Skyline GT-R in mint condition![]()
funny you should mention that. i actually have a 1989 skyline gtr.it really depends where you live though. like here in toronto its not uncommon to see skylines as there are so many people that have them now. for the usa i know it cost a lot more to bring one there. way more than the projected base price of the ft86.
