Do you go to the dealership or just usually fix it yourself?

just trying to see what you guys think. also trying to see which route is more common. so do you guys usually go and spend the extra money and bring it to a dealership or do you guys just diagnose the problems yourself and save the extra money?

The only time my dealership touches my rides is for warranty work and/or recall work, all other work I do myself or have my trusty private mechanic work on them. The money saved is huge.

It depends if its still under warranty. Assuming that its not covered under warranty anymore I try to do as much as I can. But for the really serious repairs I leave it for the professionals at the dealerships. That way if anything happens I have something to fall back on and they would need to fix it again since its their mistake.

Same. If its covered under warranty i would get the dealer to fix it. If not id do it myself.

Like what the other said, if covered under warranty.... to the dealer i go! Once the warranty is up I can do the typical maintenance myself, have my own jack, jack stands, socket set, screwdriver set, etc

Only time I'll ever go is for warranty and recall problems. Any other time I'd try to fix it myself or just take it to an independent mechanic. I get to save tons of money by doing that.

I go to the dealership and then repair it myself, BECAUSE I WORK THERE. Haha, but seriously... Forums have made it a lot easier to do your own diagnosing. Some people just need to know when to throw in the towl and get a good mechanic (dealership or independent) to look at it.

It depends on how technically savvy you are. Personally the only time I'd bring it to a dealership is if its a transmission or engine problem that can't be fixed without taking apart the transmission or engine. Clutch changes, even though it isn't that hard, takes time. And if I need the car the next day then I would bring it to my own mechanic who I trust. I just don't like going to shops where you have no idea who is working on your car.
