    First Scion FR-S / Toyota 86 / Subaru BRZ Dyno Video - 170RWHP

EDIT: The video has been removed. This is another HKS video on the 86 about the same thing.

This is the first dyno that we have seen for the FRS 86 BRZ motor.

    Looks like 170rwhp.

HKS seems to have done a good job on the Toyota 86. Looks like extreme summer performance tires or maybe even r compounds. The endless brakes the put on it lock up the brakes well. Whatever exhaust that HKS is using it sounds MEAN.

Here are some snaps of the dyno sheet

Looks like an open deck. Just another reason this block may not be able to take alot of boost.

Here is a comparison of the FRS BRZ vs some cars that are similar

Vid has been removed. Looks like 6250 and then she pukes. Pretty good overall though. Hopefully HKS has some FI options available. Torque curve is not impressive.

I've been looking for a car to F/I. I'm hoping this is it...but as you said...this is not impressive to me. I hate doing this wait and see approach.

Anyone know how they could increase power for the engine?...besides major internal work?

No there is no free power. With basic bolt ons and tuning you will probably be just over 200whp.

Forced induction or hardcore natural aspirited - expensive.

Honestly the way I see it. If you are looking for a powerful car. I don't think the FR-S is the best platform to be doing that. I'm going to assume this is basically a RWD Integra Type R. So handling is the key here. Concentrate on handling. Suspension parts, good tires, quick quick final drives, clutch LSDs, gut interior. Go have some fun on the twists. Straight line performance? Highwayruns? Probably not the car for you.

Looks like you need to be at 3k before you get any power at all. So very narrow power band IMO. 3000-6250 looks to be it.

some people still complain about the 0-60 time but when you look at other "performance" vehicles on the market such as the Camaro, it doesn't even get a 0-60 as good as the FR-S, yet it makes just over 300hp.

Japanese cars aren't made for the straight line anyways, in the twisties, expect it to dominate.

That is good and all, but unfortunately, where I live, it is pretty much a grid and I don't track my cars. So some straight line power is all I have to have fun. Maybe I need to move to a more mountainous area where I can get some good curves.

Im sort of the same way. I live in a city area, where there's not much in the way of open twisting roads. Nor do I track my cars. I'm looking for a car that will be going along the road...someone comes up beside me...and if I feel like taking off...the car will have the power to do that with ease. Preferably an import type of car...cause American cars styles just don't do it for me

I'm not as bad. I live in a suburban area but closer to the city with some access to country style curvy roads. Still not good enough to use this car for what it was meant for. Race tracks are about an hour away.

Once i get an FR-S i'll be looking into turbo kits and some others to get the straight line performance to a decent stage!

I'd say its closer to a RWD Prelude more than an Integra actually

Why do you think that? THe prelude doesn't handle as well as an integra.

I would be interested to see what the automatic version puts down on full lock. The drivetrain loss for the automatic should be a bit higher.

Drivetrain loss at 14% is normal. Most cars similar are so. 370z
