TRD Launches New Performance Line Accessories for Toyota 86 at Tokyo Auto Salon

The Toyota 86 (along with its Scion and Subaru brethren) is just one of those cars that you know beforehand will draw massive attention from the aftermarket industry as buyers will surely want to upgrade the coupe's appearance and looks.

At this week's 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, TRD (Toyota Racing Development) presented a first batch of performance and styling goods for the 86 sports coupe.

Toyota's in-house tuning division has developed a new aero package with side skirts, a full width front spoiler, a rear apron that includes a diffuser and a boot lid spoiler that go together with a bespoke fuel cap cover and 18-inch black alloy wheels.

Inside, TRD's offerings include body hugging bucket seats, a push start button, a shift knob, and what the company describes as a "Sports Meter Link System" with readings for water temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure.

Key handling features added to TRD's Performance Line 86 include a reworked and fully adjustable suspension with new front and rear anti-roll bars, a carbon front strut, additional cross-bracing and a stabilizer set, plus a sports brake kit with 6-piston calipers up front and 4-piston at the back and a high-response, four-tailpipe exhaust system.

Yes they are: "A first for Toyota. By putting a spacer in the door striker, the amount of play is reduced in the opening. This rduces play in the body during cornering, increasing body rigidity."

Who knows how much but if they took the time to address it then it must be noticeable.

Indeed they are, I found it weird they included that but the quote below makes sense...

Never thought about that, but it does make sense thinking about it. Once the FR-S/86 hits the streets we'll see how much of a difference these latches will make. Seeing them at first, it just seemed like a cosmetic mod... "bling"

it does make a difference... but how much play is there... when your doors get play must of been your car was open and closed MANY MANY times... or you have a really heavy door .

Hopefully I'm wrong but I've heard that most of these TRD parts are not going to be brought to the US market. The reason being the exchange rate would be so ridiculous that most customers would not be able to afford them. Unlike cars sales, parts sales do not follow the same standards. But on the bright side, you can order it online and say you have "JDM" TRD parts. Or just wait for an aftermarket company to develop a knock off here in the US and save some money.

That would really suck. Regardless even if Scion brought TRD parts in they would cost so much. Its going to be cheaper to buy them from an aftermarket source that imports them from Japan. SO NO WORRY PEOPLE!

TRD parts are expensive no matter what. When it comes to stuff like an aero kit i'll look into the knock off's, good knock off's made from poly.

We have yet to hear about the FR-S TRD parts price, if priced within my budget i might go with legit TRD parts!

I still don't get why there are TRD door latches. So the TRD latches give the FR-S better body ridigity? How does that work? It minimizes play within the door and the body? Why is there play in the first place?

Here is motortrends excerpt of the TRD 86
We’ve known for a while that Toyota Racing Development had its hands in the cookie jar that is the 86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ coupe, and now we can see the fruits of its labor. The division has now made its modifications available for purchase — at least for Japanese owners.
There’s not much new to say about the parts — we’ve already seen the majority of them on the Toyota 86 TRD concept during the Tokyo Auto Salon two weeks ago — but Toyota’s Japanese parts catalog now has all of them listed and available for ordering.
On the design side, Toyota offers things like lower side skirts and a more aggressive lower front fascia, as well as forged 18-inch wheels with Michelin tires, a changed rear diffuser, and a lip spoiler. If you’d like to improve your car’s performance a bit, there’s a couple of other options, including an adjustable suspension kit (featuring 40-way adjustable dampers) and a big brake kit with six pistons up front and four out back. If you’d just like to sound racy, however, there’s what Toyota calls a “high-response muffler.”
Considering that these modifications come weeks after tuning house Greddy did its own Scion FR-S concept, it’s no secret that this is probably one of the tuner scene’s most hotly anticipated cars in a long, long time. While Toyota hasn’t announced if any of the TRD parts will be coming to the American markets yet, there’s still a bit of time for any or all of them to be announced before the car goes on sale some time mid-spring. We’ll stay tuned, of course…

I don't see why they don't make those latches standard. Makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

Because they want to charge you $100 for the properly sized latch.
