    Turbos for ALL!

Don't know how true this is but just posted a couple of hours ago from Motor Trend:

    http://wot.motortrend.com/subaru-confirms-turbocharged-version-of-brz-engine-143015.html

    T
he way the article states it, it looks like the turbo will be developed by Subaru for the BRZ, GT86 & FR-S.

If this is the case, then I know what my next car is!

Wow interesting. And there is also a supercharger in the works too from what I've been reading. Soo I wonder what it's going to be .
    The List:

    2004 Honda EP3 SSM
    2008 MUGEN Si
    2008 MS3 (Current)

    FUTURE: MY86

I am guessing that the FR-S will be supercharged and the BRZ will be turbocharged.

I would like to see where it fits. There does not appear to be any room in there for a turbo. I took the article to state the FA20 will have turbo variants (WRX/STI) but no direct mention for the BRZ, just a guess. Why not come out with your best options first to make a good impression vs. having disappointments and people moving to something else that already comes with a FI setup already. If they are going the turbo route, just do it at launch. Why kill sales with dangling that carrot out there. I will be taking a wait and see approach now. After the move SUBIE made to screw over 2008-9 WRX buyers with the widebody and extra horsepower, I don't put it past them. Buy a first year car without FI, then next year the killer performance model comes out and you are stuck with a dog.

That is true. It would suck if they come out with a turbo version in the future. I was personally really hoping for a turbo or supercharger in the Scion FR-S Toyota 86 when the concept was announced. Disappointing but that car is still worthy of the market. Just hope if a supercharger or turbo becomes an option that it would somehow make the older models not obsolete. The turbo model will most likely cost more. That might be the difference.

It won't make them obsolete, just undesirable.

A turbo model is very possible but the question is WHEN. From what I've been reading, we won't see a turbo model till 2013. Apparently Subaru wants to drop the FA20 turbo into the WRX before the BRZ. I think it would be better the other way around or release both BRZ Turbo an WRX Turbo at the same time.

By the they decide to offer a turbo version of the BRZ or FR-S there will already be turbocharged FR-S and BRZ everywhere.

If a turbo version is coming, it will kill sales at launch. I would rather wait then run out and have a NA motor when a turbo version is going to hit. It will cost way more to mod than to buy a factory setup and start from there.

true everyone will either wait for the turbo charged version or super charged version who wants an N/A version when you could wait and get a more powerfull version shortly after!

I prefer a supercharged engine over a turbocharged engine!

It seems like the TRD FR-S would be more suitable supercharged since TRD has been known to make superchargers for their car and the Subaru BRZ STi would be more suitable turbocharged as that is where they expertise is. Plus that would create some product differentiation for the two products.. Something that is lacking right now.

A supercharged FA20 seems like it would be easier then turbocharging it. The engine bay seems pretty tight to fit a turbo.
