Supercharged Toyota 86 / FR-S in the works? true or false?

So according to autocar.uk, Chief Engineer Tetsuo Tada sais that a Supercharged 86 is in the vision.

Toyota is already hard at work evaluating a high performance version of the new Toyota GT 86 sporting coupe. Chief engineer Tetsuo Tada says that not only is a supercharged GT 86 envisaged, test cars have already been made and are being evaluated by Toyota Racing Developments, the Japanese giant’s in house tuning division.
The article states a possible extra 50hp? Not sure if this is a made up rumor or if it is true because I have seen no official writings from Tada stating this.

If this is true that would be big news...

Supercharged Boxer Motor Toyota 86 / Scion FR-S 250hp and a good load of more torque.

    Full article:
Toyota is already hard at work evaluating a high performance version of the new Toyota GT 86 sporting coupe. Chief engineer Tetsuo Tada says that not only is a supercharged GT 86 envisaged, test cars have already been made and are being evaluated by Toyota Racing Developments, the Japanese giant’s in house tuning division.
Tada-san favours the supercharger approach because it is simpler to achieve than increasing engine size and doesn’t wreck throttle response as turbocharging might. Indeed Toyota says that turbocharging along with four-wheel drive and wide tyres are what make sports cars boring to drive.

Supercharging is also a key competence for TRD which has been offering this kind of forced induction as an aftermarket kit for Toyotas since 1998. He would not be drawn on what kind of power a supercharged GT 86 might develop but Toyota is known to consider the car’s chassis could easily handle an additional 50bhp to go with the 197bhp already generated by its Subaru 2-litre flat four motor, a view with which, having driven the car, we wholly concur. However he says the TRD is also looking at ways of modifying the suspension to cope with the extra power, raising the possibility of a still more substantial power hike.

TRD’s most popular supercharger conversion is applied to the American market Tacoma pick up, boosting its 4-litre V6 engine from 233bhp to 301bhp suggesting that a 280bhp GT 86 with, critically, a massive boost in the low down torque the car currently lacks would be easily achieved. Even in the unlikely event that all the modifications added 100kg to the weight of the car, its power to weight ratio would still at least equal that of the 326bhp Nissan 370Z, a car capable of hitting 62mph from rest in 5.3sec and recording a top speed of 155mph. The standard GT 86 needs around 6.8sec and does 143mph. It is not yet known whether, if approved, the supercharged GT 86 would be offered as an aftermarket pack or as a model in its own right.
Tada also confirmed that it was so important to his team that even the standard GT 86 drifted properly that special tests were incorporated into the car’s development programme specifically for this purpose, ‘the first time this has ever been done on any Toyota.’

It seems entirely possible. Ive been wondering this too because subaru was showing off its BRZ GT300 car. I knew there was going to be a 300hp FR-s but just didnt know how they where going to do it (all motor, or boost )

Really hope this becomes a reality and it isn't just a rumor. If Scion offers a TRD supercharger as an option in the future this car will be much more attractive for those performance hungry enthusiasts.

TRD has built superchargers for most of the vehicles that Toyota makes, so it definetly seems reasonable. The great thing is, they preserve the warranty. Your warranty will not get voided if you add a TRD supercharger

The perks of going TRD! But then again TRD parts aren't cheap, you get what you pay for with TRD and that's perfection.

By the time the FR-S come out and most people have them in their hands companies will offer superchargers for the FR-S for cheaper then the TRD. But for OEM parts and warranty the TRD supercharger would be the way to go.

Honestly, for the 3-4k at least this will cost, 50hp is a joke IMO. It should at least push 100hp to make it worth doing.

around 50hp+ and $3000-$4000 no doubt, but that's the price you pay for "factory" performance. There's a good reason that we won't see a kit from Toyota or TRD that pushes 100hp, increasing power by that much can lead to problems if internal engine work isn't done. 100hp increase on the FR-S engine is a 50% increase, which is a lot on such a small engine.

Oh, I totally agree. But I see posts here all the time how a little 2.0 is going to make 300 NA HP which would make it the most powerful engine per liter in the world ever produced, so getting to 300 with a SC should be a cake walk......LOL.

300whp 2.0L supercharged car is possible but the motor will have to be rebuilt quite a bit and you are going to have to run high boost. The transmission and axels are the weakest link in these situations.

I believe that was all speculation before the Tokyo Motor Show that started with a quote from Subaru saying the N/A BRZ will make "Under 300HP" with a ECU tune and some thought they meant 300HP on point LOL.

I want around 300HP on my FR-S, just won't depend on TRD to make anything reasonably priced that will meet my power expectations.

Yeah, this car will be a money pit if you start going for power. I hope I am proven wrong and they over engineered everything to take it, but that adds costs, and I don't think we will be that lucky.

If your looking to achieve 300whp.. yeah honestly don't wait for TRD your gonna have to go aftermarket for sure.. and be ready to spend $5000-$6000 to do a proper forced induction setup

That goes the same for pretty much every n/a 2.0 liter powered car in the industry. There is no such thing as easy/cheap power.
