As far as my taste in cars, I grew up in an area that runs strong with imports, and until I bought this GTO my interests were primarily in Subarus and Nissans. I've always liked old Mopars because my dad is a mopar fan... I actually have general distaste for GM and their vehicles, as I've seen/worked on a lot of the crap they have put out.
However, when I was looking for a new toy, the GTO has a lot of bang for the buck, and I wanted a 2 door vehicle, which was the deciding factor between the GTO and the STi. This is another reason I'm particularly interested in the FR-S, as it's 2 doors. Also the GTO isn't really American, which is how I justified buying a GM product.
As for my GTO, it's still slow. Stock motor. I bought it in 2009 as the 5th owner (its been around quite a bit, apparently), with 37k mi on it. It's got just under 69k mi on it now and I just finished replacing pretty much the entire suspension... handles much better now, which is a serious weakness of the stock car. Current best in the car is 13.088 @ 108.2, 313 DA. This was before suspension and tire upgrades though. I expect to be in the 12's with the new suspension.
Plan for the winter is to find a suitable engine block and in the spring build a forged 403 for it, to be installed sometime in the summer 2012, then fit it with a front mount turbo. I didn't want to start the motor before the suspension though, too much power for the crappy suspension.
