    Old school Subaru fan here

    Hey guys,

My name's Jim... I'm an old school Subaru fan, who's lusted after the WRX since it hit the states. My current toy is an '05 GTO that I'm slowly building into a Sunday driver/ weekend drag car.

I'm going to follow the FR-S closely and might get one for a daily driver once they come out in a couple years, although I'm more likely to get the Subaru version.

    Cheers!

Hey dude. I don't come by a lot of domestic guys that are also fan's of Japanese vehicles. Good to see you have a mixed taste in cars. Post pictures of your 05 GTO, the members on here from Canada will love to see it since the GTO was never sold in Canada. Also keep us updated on your GTO drag car build! I'm sure the admin's won't mind you starting a build thread on here

Im doubting the FR-S will be released under the Subaru brand, but most likely will be using Subaru components.

How I see it, the car will be sold as a Scion FR-S wherever Scion vehicles are sold.... and the Toyota FT-86 everywhere else.

I thought I had read somewhere that the FR-S would be released as a Subaru, with awd instead of rwd. Either way, I have a soft spot for horizontally opposed engines, so I'm very interested to see what happens with this generation of cars.

As far as my taste in cars, I grew up in an area that runs strong with imports, and until I bought this GTO my interests were primarily in Subarus and Nissans. I've always liked old Mopars because my dad is a mopar fan... I actually have general distaste for GM and their vehicles, as I've seen/worked on a lot of the crap they have put out.

However, when I was looking for a new toy, the GTO has a lot of bang for the buck, and I wanted a 2 door vehicle, which was the deciding factor between the GTO and the STi. This is another reason I'm particularly interested in the FR-S, as it's 2 doors. Also the GTO isn't really American, which is how I justified buying a GM product.

As for my GTO, it's still slow. Stock motor. I bought it in 2009 as the 5th owner (its been around quite a bit, apparently), with 37k mi on it. It's got just under 69k mi on it now and I just finished replacing pretty much the entire suspension... handles much better now, which is a serious weakness of the stock car. Current best in the car is 13.088 @ 108.2, 313 DA. This was before suspension and tire upgrades though. I expect to be in the 12's with the new suspension.

Plan for the winter is to find a suitable engine block and in the spring build a forged 403 for it, to be installed sometime in the summer 2012, then fit it with a front mount turbo. I didn't want to start the motor before the suspension though, too much power for the crappy suspension.

    welcome to this forum

not a huge domestic car fan but I hear a lot of good things about the GTO, don't they make a Holden version of it in Europe?

looks like your GTO build is off to a great start

If going for a new car the WRX STI would've been my choice
Since your a Subaru fan and wanted a 2 door, going old skool with a 2 door Subaru Impreza was an option back in the days.......

Either way, GTO's are awesome cars and it was video's like the one below that sparked my interested in them

All GTO and Impreza aside, I want to see what you can do with the FR-S! It should be one of the best cars for tuners once it's out.
