Talking LS1-Swapped Scion FR-S/Toyota FT-86, what are the chances?

So I just finished reading a autoguide.com article about a LS1-swapped Hyundai Genesis and thought that was really cool, guys on the street won't even suspect that Genesis is packing a LS1.

LS1-Swapped Hyundai Genesis Coupe Headed to SEMA

What are the chances of a crazy FR-S engine swap such as a LS1? Since we have no pictures of the FR-S engine bay it's hard to judge what can fit and what cannot. The hood does seem to be pretty long, and leads me to believe the FR-S engine bay would be bigger than it needs to be for the said D4-S 4 Cylinder Boxer Engine.

Maybe a LS1 will fit, maybe it won't

Would you do a LS1 engine swap to a FR-S?

YES! I would so do it. The fr-s is the perfect car for something as crazy as this.

Light weight + RWD + LS1 = go baby goooo

here's an example of a similar combination on a S13, not a AE86 but same idea behind it.

after watching that video, fr-s or ft-86 with a LS1 will make for an awesome drift car setup yea im thinking ahead

anything will fit, just depends how much of the fire wall you have to cut....

but i wouldn't do it, thing with LS1 swaps is they tend to throw off the weight of the car a lot and then it just driving any other muscle car.. it looses it personality and just becomes a V8 mashing machine.

Damn you guys are quick to reply LOL!

FT: A FR-S drift car with LS1 would be epic, thanks for bringing that up now you have me day dreaming about this setup.

rwdftw: I like the idea of the raw power, I'm sure if someone has the coin to drop on a custom LS1 swap they can spend some extra to ensure proper weight distribution.

If you dont mind throwing the weight distribution off then go for it. Id much rather have a 2jz under the hood but thats just me.

A twin turbo 2JZ would put the FR-S FT86 up to 1000whp. That would be more then enough power for any soccer mom to grab her groceries in.

2JZ swap is good to do too, but I just love the sound and raw power the LS1 has. But even a 2JZ will throw off the weight balance. Either way I think the FR-S with a LS1 or 2JZGTE will make for a killer drift car or drag setup.

I think weight balance should be seriously considered if you want to do road course racing, if that's what you want just tune the stock FR-S engine.

No way to know yet but a stock FR-S FT86 engine should be able to hit 600whp with the right sized turbo.

Expecting 600 wheel horsepower from a 4 cylinder boxer engine is quite a lot, no? FR-S rumors have it that the FR-S horsepower will be around 200, to get to 600whp will take a ton of money. Just imagine all the internal engine work you'll have to do just to safely run a 600whp setup.

A bolt on kit that will require minor internal engine or none at all should get you up to around 300-350whp . I think anymore more than that you will want to be on the safe side and upgrade the internals

sorry i meant a stock engine as in no need to make it any bigger. to achieve 600whp you'd prob need over 20psi of boost so yea you would very likely need all your internals upgraded and maybe even new sleeves.

considering people with the tc are pushing over 500 and i think one is near 600 on an engine that only put out 140, i think a built 600 is veryyyyy doable.

I have to see this, can you post some information about these 500-600HP Scion TC's. Getting big power from a small engine requires a lot of work if you want it to actually last. 500-600HP is doable in any car just depends on what you need to do to get that number.

uh WOW that's just amazing. Had to be a drift car lol.

I guessing that car is worth at least a good $100 000. If a Scion tC can be taken to that extreme, I can't wait to see how far someone can take the FR-S.
