That's a sweet photo. Gotta love the boxer motor but I don't think thats the motor for the FT-86. Its a 3.6lt motor with 6 cylinders. I found that article on google as well. I think the photo is a mistake.
When I saw the thread title I thought the D-4S engine would be here as well but I guess not, your showing us a V6 engine.
BTW where is the article this picture came from?
Here's a link to the correct engine for the FT-86/FR-S & a picture of it.

It's actually quite possible the FR-S could be getting this engine or something like it. Makes sense that we can choose between the 4 CYL turbo Boxer (D-4S?) and the 6 CYL engine shown above.
How I see it, if you look at Toyota's history, you can judge it's future.
A similar thing happened to the Lexus SC/Toyota Soarer. You had the option of a inline 6 turbo or a N/A V8.
haha yea i was in a rush saw the photo on some article and linked it here. didnt look twice until now.
haha man how sweet it would be if the fr-s ft86 actually came with a 6 cylinder boxer.
The 4 cylinder would have been enough if it was turbocharged. But I agree a 6 cylinder would have been a real eye opener / game changer for Toyota.
