    Scion FR-S engine code

For the past while I've been hearing about the Scion FR-S engine being a 4 cyl engine in n/a and forced induction (turbo), some Fr-S engine specs, FR-S engine speculation but nothing about the FR-S engine code.

I would really like to find this out, can't seem to find it anywhere. So far I've head about a EJ or FB. Can anyone confirm the engine code(s)

unfortunately we have to wait till nov-dec to hear about the engine code since scion hasn't released much info at all, not even a specifications list.

I heard somewhere the fr-s engine code will start with FB. FB20 maybe?

Toyota will remain tight-lipped about the engine.

i highly doubt that, Toyota mentioned it will be developing this car from scratch, even the engine. if they want to keep this car different from anything else on the market the fr-s engine will have to be totally new.

The engine is based off of a Subaru engine so its not completely from scratch. For sure they have improved on the engine from Subaru. Does Scion use similar engine codes to Toyota?

Looking at Scion & Toyota's past the engine codes seem to be the same. I know the 2AZ-FE found in the Scion TC is also the same engine found in the Camry & Corolla. So the Scion/Toyota/Subaru versions of the FR-S/FT-86 should all be the same or similar with slightly different power output

It's starting to get a bit confusing with 3 brands all creating similar cars... Scion?Toyota?Subaru? wtheck.

It sure is, but it's needed for the success of this new product from them and different markets call for different variations, options, features, etc.

e.x. Scion FR-S (American Market) will have american sized cup holders for your XL Starbucks coffee while the Toyota FT-86 (Japanese Market) probably wont have or might be an option.

I think the Subaru 216a is for the European market.

someone correct me if im wrong, thanks!

How I think about it, the Scion FR-S is confirmed for north america. Yes, we might also get the Subaru 216a, but what are the chances? I think it's more for Europe.

depending on how different the subaru is from the scion variant maybe we will see the subaru version in america. say for example scion doesn't come out with a turbo version in a higher trim. then there would be a market for subaru to have a turbo version.

    good point.

The bad thing is, if you look at the Impreza STi's they aren't cheap but you get a ton of performance. This trend might follow to the Subaru FR-S variant, unfortunately.

I dont think the Subaru version will be as cheap as the Scion. That wouldn't make any sense.

any word on a possible v6 engine? i would imagine somewhere along the line within the 3 brands they will offer a engine that's different from the rest.

fr-s engine code still seems TBA from scion
