    FT-86 Diesel?

I wonder if this will happen in Europe. I doubt it would ever make it's way across the pond to North America. About one year ago (maybe a bit more) Subaru launched the first boxer diesel engine, a 2.0 lt 4 cyl. with 150 hp and 350 Nm (or 260 lbft) of torque.

I've driven several Foresters and Impreza in the past (turbo and N/A) but this diesel was nice. It felt very torquey and kept pulling strong up to redline and didn't had the usual narrow powerband other diesel engines do. I liked it a lot.
Fuel economy is an added bonus of course.

So, who would like to see a diesel version of the FT-86?

Not a fan of a diesel engine in the slightest. Thankfully don't there is any chance that the car will come in a diesel variant in the US.

It would really depend on what kind of benefits we could see if it came in a diesel brother. If they offered both models it would be interesting to see how they would differentiate the price differences between the two.

It is a safe to assume that we will need premium fuel, right?

Diesel would definitely be a good thing. There's a lot of fast diesels out there. Mostly Volkswagen but don't forget about the R8 TDI.

theres no mention of a diesel engine coming out for the ft86. but if the boxer engine they design for it is like all the other subaru engines. then you wont have a problem dropping in a diesel engine from another subaru.

Whether mentioned or not, I would love to see one just to compete with the european fast diesels. By the way the motor for the Audi R8 diesel is technically a VW too!

Add two doors and a diesel makes a lot of sense. I think that North Americans have a long way to go before a diesel sports car will sell.

Audi R8. But that's in a whole different class of cars. I think it's the lack of readily accessible diesel at gas stations. While there's gas stations that do carry diesel, they're not as widespread.

Diesel will be a great thing to happen. However this is somthing that seems for most car manufacturers only done for the European market. The infrastructure for the Diesel vehicles is not as strong in Canada and the US for the market to demand them here.

Well said....maybe one day but it seems like diesel stations/pumps are becoming less frequent instead of more popular.

Maybe we can ask some advice from the R8 and VW drivers in North America. They have to get their diesel from somewhere. They probably use so little fuel that they dont worry about how far that diesel gas stations are.

This is true! I have a friend who travels 400km each way to visit his girlfriend every weekend. I have not heard of him complaining about fueling up ever and its been two years. He drives a VW Golf if memory serves me right. I can only assume he fills up before he leaves each destination.
