Thumbs up Well integerated but how do you re-paint?

I like how integerated this car looks, but if you have a minor boo boo, it appears difficult to repaint with "blending".

I recall seeing a Toyota whitepaper saying that don't recommend "blending" and they weren't going build body that wrap around. So when you have new paint and old paint mesh together. It'll pass the insurance company as it is "color matched", but looks awful in a texture stand point. I didn't see any rubber moulding on the roof line like modern cars have so you don't need a blend line. I wish there are separation panels. Anyways I do love this car, and I wish Toyota start announce when the car will be available. I am so excited --- finally a new car from Toyota that is exciting.

I suspect we may see some differences in body lines and matching that could make the blending easier. Can most paint shops not make it almost unnoticeable to the human eye when they blend?

Hopefully, there will be minor mod. Most shop do not spend the time to blend well and the best recommend you paint the continous panel which is quite costly.

I finally found where Toyota mentions about continous body panels and below is what it said:

Toyota does not recommend the use of blending clearcoat within a panel. Instead, Toyota recommends applying clearcoat to the nearest panel edge. All new Toyota, Lexus and Scion vehicles include a trim rail above the doors to provide a breakpoint for painting only one side. However, when painting older vehicles, it may be necessary to paint the roof and opposite side of the vehicle for some repairs --- Hopefully, I assume Toyota will separate the panels :-)

based on the concept car most of the body panel is integrated into one another. making it very hard to do small repairs and get the paint to blend. while it is hard it is not impossible. i personally seen a really good body shop blend paint on 15 yr old stock paint and after they were done you couldn't tell where the repair was.

Wraps are not anything new. A lot of people wrap their Lotus Elise and other track based lightweight vehicles nowadays. I think a wrap would be beneficial to anyone who is tracking their car.

I have found a few cars online that wrap their entire car in different colors. The most common seems to be people wrapping their cars in a flat black wrap, see BMW:

What happens if that flat black gets dirty, what does it look like? Any idea how hard it is to keep clean?

I have had many flat black cars in my time. It looks like crap when it gets dirty, but is really easy to keep clean. You also don't notice small little imperfections on the flat black so it is a great finish overall.

depends also on how the flat black was achieved. if it was done with vinyl wrap it is very very easy to clean. either a simple pressure wash at your local car wash or even wiping it down with a california duster will work. if it was done via paint then you need to be very very careful. as the flat paint can stain easily. one of the worst things is when you accidentally drip a small amount of gas on the paint. it will stain and can't be removed no matter how hard you try.

I think Toyota will certainly provide rain channels at the roof line if for no other reason than the ability to sell accessory roof racks, etc. I would also assume the production of the car would be much easier with various panels instead of one larger one. It sure does look pretty on a concept car though!

I'm not too keen on the rain channels. There's a good possibility that the roof stays the way it is just like the concept.
